Frequently Asked Questions
What are seamless gutters?
Seamless rain gutters are just as the name implies – seamless. There isn’t a break in the gutter. They are formed on site for a custom fit.
How do seamless gutters differ from sectional gutters?
Since there is no seam, there are no leaks. This is why they are the most popular type of gutter today. The only seams are at inside and outside corners. Tinman seamless gutters are sealed, screwed and warranted for twenty years not to leak.
Seamless gutters are usually made from aluminum, but they can be made from copper or galvalume. They are made with a seamless gutter machine that is brought to your home by the gutter contractor. Each individual gutter is customized to fit your home.
With a conventional sectional gutter system there are many sections of guttering pieced together with snap-in-place connectors. Over time these sections form leaks in the seams and can cause wood rot behind the gutter. Because seamless gutters are formed on site the gauge, or thickness, is heavier than bulk made sectional gutters, an important factor in high snow climates.
What are the advantages of seamless gutters?
Advantages of seamless rain gutters:
- Greatly reduces the possibility of leaks
- Eliminates unsightly seams
- Baked on enamel finish never needs painting
- Formed on the job for exact measurements
- Protects the beauty of your home
- Many colors to choose from
When is it necessary to replace gutters?
If the exterior of your house has mold or peeling paint, it could be a sign that your gutters need fixing or replacing. Snow and ice can build up within the gutters, causing damage or leaks to the home. (It is a myth that gutters cause ice buildup – instead it is caused by heat escaping too quickly from your home.)
Clogged downspouts and debris in gutters can cause them to pull away or sag from the home. They may not be pitched correctly, leaving standing water that attracts insects and mold.
When it comes to keeping leaves out of your gutters and downspouts, there is no reason to spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars to solve this common problem. There are many new and expensive gimmicks on the market today. Tinman Seamless Gutters can solve these problems without spending all your hard earned money!
Other signs that the gutters may not be working correctly are cracks in the foundation of the house or water in the basement. Clogged gutters can cause water buildup, forcing it to overflow and causing water buildup around the foundation.
In any of these situations, getting a gutter professional such as Tinman Seamless Gutters to assess the problem is the best step you can take to correcting your problem.
Do gutters cause ice build-up?
Ice that continually freezes in gutters can be a pain in the neck for homeowners. Once ice has clogged the gutter or the drainpipe, thawing causes water to overflow the gutter, and subsequent freezing can lead to roof damage and dangerous ice patches on the ground. Understanding what causes ice build up is the first step in solving the problem.
The main cause of ice build up on the roof has to do with Poor Attic Insulation. Heat escaping through the roof of the house melts the bottom of the snow that is on the roof. This melted snow trickles down until it reaches the edge of the roof. When it reaches the gutter, it is no longer warmed by the heat from the house and it freezes into ice. This process can eventually build up large amounts of ice on and around the gutter.
Other reasons for ice build-up are blocked drainpipes or improperly placed gutters.
Are colors available?
Yes. A wide variety of colors are available for standard aluminum gutters. The high quality baked enamel finish never needs painting.
Tinman Seamless Gutters takes pride in the small details such as matching colors for gutters and downspouts, and making sure the screws are painted to blend in on the downspouts.
How are they installed?
Tinman Seamless Gutters will arrive at your home with a seamless gutter machine. Each gutter is measured and cut to specific measurements, then installed on home.
One of the most important aspects of installation is a proper pitch to the gutter so fine debris and water flow and drain properly.
Tinman Seamless Gutters carefully assesses your situation to find the best location to direct runoff away from your house.
Tinman Seamless Gutters use hidden hangers which interlock into the gutter for a cleaner look. We also space the hangers closely to offer more strength and durability against the weight of snow or ice. In most cases they are spaced 3 times more than the manufacturers recommended spacing.
At Tinman Seamless Gutters, aesthetics is one of the important parts of installation. See examples of our work.
Are my gutters guarenteed?
Yes. We warranty our materials and workmanship for 20 years. We promise to meet or exceed customer expectations in every job we do.
Our colors are under warranty for 20 years against chipping, peeling or blistering
Why should I use Tinman Seamless Gutters?
Tinman Seamless Gutters has an established reputation for honesty, and believes in not spending the customer’s money when it is not necessary.
Tinman Seamless Gutters uses only .032 gauge material to form our gutters. Other gutter companies use less expensive .027 or thinner. We only use 3 inch by 4 inch downspouts. The larger diameter allows water to exit the gutter faster and helps keep the gutters clear and flowing. Most gutter companies use much smaller 2 inch by 3 inch downspouts. The hidden hangers used for our installations are the strongest available
We have been in the gutter Installation business for over 30 years.
Will you dispose of my old gutters?
Yes. If there are existing gutters, they will be taken down and taken away for little or no charge when new gutters are installed.
